Gambia: Energy, Engine of Growth

Once again, the drive to improve The Gambia's energy sector has been given another boost. The acquisition of a US$31.9M grant from ECOWAS for our energy sector could not have come at a better time. Problems of electricity supply are becoming history in this country.
While most people in the country nowadays experience a 24-hour electricity supply, with a corresponding increase in the number of street lights, it is important that we strive towards consolidating and strengthening what we have.
The grant will no doubt help in ensuring sustainability of the many development projects the country is realising now. More importantly, the grant if utilised for the efficiency of the energy sector will boost the ongoing rural electrification project which is at the heart of the government's major programmes.
